History of the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT
In the 1960s, Alfa Romeo created a new line of high performance cars: GTA. The first car in this series was the Giulia GTA. In 1971, a new model was introduced: the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT. Taking the mechanical scheme of the 1968 "Giulia GT", it was only natural that Alfa Romeo entrusted the development of the new model to the newly founded Italdesign company of Giorgetto Giugiaro, who had been largely involved in the creation of the "Giulia GT" but as an employee of the famous Italian coachbuilder Bertone. This coupe was equipped with a 1600 cc engine from the Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce: 120 hp. Three years later, in 1974, the engine was increased to 1700 cc and went from 110 to 125 hp. In 1977, the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT Evoluzione (evolution) arrived with a 1750 cc engine that developed 135 hp. Here are some major innovations to note on this model: a completely redesigned suspension system, as well as the location of the power unit, the all-aluminum gearbox and axle assembly being mounted on the rear axle, with inboard brakes.
